Pfizer Senior Scientist in Pearl River, New York
The incumbent will be a research scientist experienced in meningococcal disease research with knowledge of epidemiology, cell biology, disease mechanisms, host immune response and vaccine strategies. A proven track record of peer reviewed publications and experience in verbal presentation is essential. In addition to high technical competence, the individual in this position understands and will articulate program objectives, experimental results, and provide technical guidance for future assignments to address a problem or evaluate a process/procedure. The incumbent will work in proximity with project teams, supporting lines and team members to drive experimental design and logistics. Collaborations across multidisciplinary teams that include Vaccine Research and Development (VRD) Assay Development, Clinical Testing and Clinical Research groups, as well as appropriate partner lines. The incumbent will be expected to share and present research results in program meetings and to author appropriate documents (reports, standard operation procedures, regulatory documents and publications for peer review).
Responsible for research objectives focused on meningococcal cell biology, virulence mechanisms, vaccine strategies and assays that measure the functional immune response of the host. Includes expertise in molecular biology techniques including genetic manipulation of Neisseria species to develop reagents suited to address experimental questions.
Should be self-motivated and able to work effectively as part of a cross-functional team, serving as SME. Ability to multitask priorities to align with program objectives.
Ability to review literature and design hypothesis driven studies to guide development of assays to measure the functional immune response to meningococcal antigens. Leverage existing knowledge appropriately, being mindful of potential patents.
Analyze data from multiple sources; communicate one's own and collective findings at group meetings, project meetings and departmental meetings. Propose follow up actions in a clear and concise manner.
Write progress reports, technical documents and manuscripts for peer review publication. Contribute to writing of regulatory documents.
Demonstrated proficiency in proper handling of bacterial isolates and clinical samples; compliance with all training (including safety and regulatory) requirements.
Maintain a laboratory notebook in a detailed and descriptive manner.
- PhD. in microbiology, molecular/cell biology, biochemistry, immunology, or related field and 3 years of post-doctoral or industry experience. Experience in meningococcal biology including functional cell-based assays to monitor the host immune response to meningococcal antigens and molecular techniques for the genetic manipulation of Neisseria species. Self-motivated and able to work effectively as part of a cross-functional team. Ability to multitask priorities to align with program objectives. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and relevant scientific software, including bioinformatics and graphing/statistical analysis tools.
