Pfizer Senior Manager, WRD Postdoctoral Program in Pearl River, New York

ROLE SUMMARY

The Senior Manager of the WRD Postdoctoral Program is responsible for providing effective and efficient direction of the overall operations of the cross-WRD program. This position also provides strategic and operational support to the WRDLT Postdoctoral Sponsor by translating the Sponsor's high-level programmatic vision and strategy into tangible executable business plans. Furthermore, this position also provides management and support for the Postdoctoral Program Governance Team to ensure the effectiveness of Program oversight.

The ideal candidate must be able to develop tangible plans to optimize the operations of this key WRD program. He/she anticipates, identifies, understands, engages in and supports the prioritization of issues and opportunities within the program and across the units and partner lines to ensure these initiatives are compatible with the overall scientific vision of the program and are communicated in a timely and effective manner to drive engagement and alignment.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directs all day-to-day operations of the Postdoctoral Program, including organizing and leading monthly meetings of the cross-WRD Postdoctoral Program Governance Team.

  • Directs the annual Postdoctoral Program Competitive Review for central funding of postdoc positions. Develops and maintains appropriate guidance and procedures for competitive applications.

  • Provides frequent programmatic updates to the WRDLT Postdoctoral Program Sponsor. Independently makes decisions regarding routine operations and triages major issue to elevate to sponsor using sound judgement and professional discretion.

  • Represents the program at major external meetings and maintains relationships/networks with other industry and academic postdoc programs to promote best practices.

  • Develops resources for postdocs, mentors, PPGT members and others interested in the Postdoctoral program. This includes improving accessibility of external and internal materials (including recruitment materials, policies, best practices) and communicating about their availability.

  • Oversees and directs content of Postdoc recruitment website.

  • Directs and organizes an annual Postdoc Symposium, which includes participation by the WRDLT and external high-profile speakers.

  • Directs efforts to ensure and improve collaboration/interaction among postdocs and between postdocs and other colleagues. Promotes cross-site collaboration of sharing of findings in the program.

  • Develops and ensure timely implementation of assessment tools/activities/metrics for the evaluation of Program effectiveness, while responding quickly to findings.

  • Develops/improves vehicles to effectively communicate findings for internal/external promotion, WRD-LT updates, etc.

  • Actively seeks to engage in strategic opportunities to increase the visibility of the Postdoctoral Program both internally and externally to attract quality candidates and as a reputation-enhancing opportunity for the Company.

  • Develop and monitor appropriate metrics to measure success of the Postdoctoral program, including in recruitment, quality of publications, and quality of post-program placements.

  • Supervises Postdoctoral Program Coordinator and provides guidance for effective administrative functioning of the program.

  • Creates an environment that encourages and instills the desired cultural mindset including efficient decision-making, empowerment, flexibility, optimization of resources, and strong execution.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • College degree or equivalent work experience

  • At least 10+ years of project management experience and 5+ years of experience in, and demonstrated success leading, the operations of a postdoctoral program.

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • Established track record of working with Senior Leaders and distilling complex business problems into actionable recommendations.

  • Experienced in change management with strong oral and written communication skills with experience in communicating organizational concepts to scientific staff.

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to navigate across Pfizer to achieve programmatic objectives and goals.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to lead through influence.

  • Proactive self-starter with comfort working autonomously .

  • Strong project and program management skills, including change leadership.

  • Must have proven ability to manage complex situations in a matrix organizational structure through the participation in or leadership of cross-functional teams, together with strong team membership skills.

  • Demonstrated business acumen and strategic thinking abilities .

  • Strong ability to prioritize and accomplish tasks with limited resources.
