The Rare Diseases Research Unit (RDRU) of Pfizer is committed to the development of new therapies to address unmet medical needs of those individuals with rare and neglected diseases and to make a real impact on patient lives. Our Morrisville, NC laboratories are dedicated to the development of Gene Therapy based products. Pfizer RDRU is fitted with state-of-the-art laboratories and equipment, providing the perfect environment for cutting-edge science and exciting projects.

We are currently seeking a laboratory technician to work within Pfizer RDRU research labs located in Morrisville, NC performing in-line tasks associated with preclinical production of recombinant vectors. The candidate is expected to familiarize themselves with all standard operating procedures associated with the purification and quality control assessment of plasmid DNA used in viral gene therapy vector production. This will include analysis and quality control-related tasks and periodic testing of equipment.


This position will work with a team that is responsible for performing plasmid production at the research level up to 60 liters/week. The preferred candidate will have the ability to maintain an organized and clean laboratory space, maintain a rotating stock of supplies, be able to clearly communicate daily work in an organized electronic lab notebook, measure liquid material and added specific volumes together, and learn specific protocol and follow them consistently. Experience preferred in DNA/protein electrophoreses, DNA quantification and analysis, PCR and qPCR, and molecular cloning. The candidate must be able to work closely with a team and communicate effectively to meet schedules and deadlines.



• B.Sc in biological/life sciences or at least 2 years of relevant laboratory research experience


• Prior experience in a laboratory setting is preferred

• Must have good practical skills in a laboratory setting such as: keep an organized electronic lab notebook and maintaining cleanliness to minimize contamination.

• Must be able to follow detailed protocols.

• Must have ability of concentrate while doing repetitive tasks.

• Must be able to read and thoroughly understand weekly schedule for inoculation, centrifugation and steps leading to the purification of plasmid DNA from Bacteria.

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds for short periods of time (less than 1minute)

• Proficiency in Microsoft systems such as: Office suite, Outlook, Etc.

• Must be able to communicate well in written and spoken English
