Pfizer Operations TL/Manager Aseptic Processing in McPherson, Kansas

ROLE SUMMARY

This position supports the Aseptic Compounding, Equipment Prep, Component Prep and Filling operations at the McPherson, Kansas site. The position will be responsible for oversight of production activities from 6pm to 6am on a rotating 2-2-3 work schedule. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leadership of a night shift aseptic operations teams with the primary purpose of supporting patient's needs, maintaining impeccable regulatory compliance, and developing behavioral & technical competencies for the organization within an environment of continuous improvement.

  • Manufacturing of sterile injectables across a variety of aseptic, lyo and capping lines

  • Building an EHS & cGMP compliance culture in alignment with PGS

  • Fostering behavioral expectations within the OWN IT cultural model and pertinent technical competencies

  • Active sponsor of innovation & continuous improvement activities

  • Provide coaching and drive development for night shift TL/Supervisors

  • Act a primary point of contact for production schedule adherence, incident evaluation and night shift support teams

Candidate will demonstrate personal leadership, initiative, judgment and accountability in day-to-day work activities in addition to exhibiting strong planning/organizational skills. Must possess strong communication skills and demonstrate integrity and cooperation in working with diverse colleagues/groups. Successful candidate will participate on multiple cross disciplinary teams and interface with multiple levels of Pfizer colleagues as well as guests to the site. Candidate may be a leader of leaders in support of a 24/7 operations model.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for effective leadership of assigned projects and/or operations team which includes ensuring:

  • Continuity of Operations and alignment of departmental objectives across night shift teams supporting aseptic production

  • The safety of team members and the operation

  • cGMP's are followed and production SOP's are upheld

  • Production schedules are met

  • Accountability at all levels of the operations team

  • Execution of production master schedule to meet supply & budgetary commitments

  • Providing inputs to the preparation and attainment to annual budget & revisions to product costing

  • Participation in site's capital investment strategies & driving execution of projects

The successful candidate will act as coach and mentor to transform group into a cohesive, harmonized team. Responsible for counseling colleagues to assure proper development for their success, supporting all colleagues to ensure they each reach their full potential, and to provide corrective action when necessary. Provide an environment that encourages creativity, innovative ideas, and engagement.

Position is responsible for overseeing the aseptic filling and lyophilization of Injectable products within McPherson Operations. May lead a team of TL/Supervisors and Operations Professionals across all shifts. Strong teamwork and technical skills required. Will troubleshoot and lead resolution of production process problems with processes or equipment already in operation. Requires understanding of compliance, pharmaceutical, pharmacological, biological, biochemical, medical and microbiological factors.

Responsible for leading team in identifying and implementing efficiency, safety, quality and cost improvements on equipment and processes. Possesses the ability to critically analyze filling/inspection/packaging processes for reproducibility, ruggedness, and root cause failure investigations of day to day operations. Requires developing strategies and systems to improve process performance. Ability to work in cross-functional teams with focus on deliverables, timelines, and meeting customer expectations and requirements.

Candidate will lead Operational Excellence initiatives (i.e. Kanban, M1 investigations, GB certification, etc.), develop OpEx skills of colleagues, and drive a culture of continuous improvement with their team utilizing IMEx principles.

Understanding and application of industry, functional and Pfizer-specific principles, theories, concepts and practices. General knowledge of other related disciplines. Knowledge of basic leadership principles. Focus is on leading/overseeing defined processes and production colleagues, which may require deep, detailed knowledge.

Provide solutions to a wide range of difficult/complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity, innovation, and creativity. May refer to precedents and policies. Able to gather, analyze and interpret information and identify cause and effect relationships. Solutions are imaginative, practical, thorough, and in line with organization objectives.

Able to adapt and respond positively to situations and people in order to meet changing work unit priorities. Operates within established HR policies and basic colleague relations guidelines.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree plus 3+ years of experience in manufacturing/engineering preferably in a sterile manufacturing setting.

  • Master's degree plus 1+ years of experience in manufacturing/engineering preferably in a sterile manufacturing setting.

  • Experience in an aseptic/FDA-regulated manufacturing environment and working knowledge of cGMP and facility/equipment validation requirements is required.

  • Demonstrated skills in leading; operational planning; integrating, managing and/or coordinating similar/related teams, units, work processes and/or functions.

  • Comprehensive demonstrated skills in communicating (oral and written) effectively with diverse individuals/groups; facilitating trust, understanding, growth, empowering and enabling employee, business and customer relationships.

  • Proven track record of delivering results consistently and fostering an engaged culture.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies, including lean/6-sigma skills

  • Pharmaceutical process development, exposure to other aseptic sites/practices, and project management experience highly desirable.

  • Experience in driving area transformations.

  • Prior front line leader supervision experience.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Expected to spend majority of time on the shop floor with daily walks throughs of the shop floor, and to be trained in the appropriate gowning (minimum Grade D). Job will require weekend support in accordance with a 2-2-3 shift schedule.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

Work Schedule: work schedule is will require shift support in accordance with a 2-2-3 shift schedule. Position will align and work on the 2-2-3 rotation. Work hours may need to adjust (including nights and weekends) from time to time (e.g., OTE all-colleague meetings, time of increased project activity requiring leadership presence, etc.).

Travel: travel to other sites, or to above-site locations housing corporate/enabling functions may be required infrequently.
