Role Summary:

The Centers for Therapeutic Innovation (CTI), a part of Pfizer's Emerging Science and Innovation network, is seeking a bioassay specialist. CTI is a pioneering research and development division of Pfizer that partners with leading academic medical centers and disease foundations with the aim of translating promising science into clinical candidates . The individual will play an active role in discovery research and preclinical development of CTI portfolio projects across several therapeutic areas. He/she will serve on project teams and work collaboratively with CTI personnel, Pfizer colleagues from research units and partner lines, and academic/biotech partners to meet aggressive project goals and timelines to advance novel molecules of multiple drug modalities to the clinic. A successful candidate will ideally have experience in at least one area of metabolic disease, immunology, oncology and/or cancer immunology with an emphasis on critical thinking and assay development to support target validation, molecular mechanisms of action, and to evaluate drug-target pharmacology.

Role Responsibilities:

He/she will be responsible for developing, documenting, executing, and reporting experimental plans that explore mechanisms of drug target activity as it relates to disease pathology, and to provide critical evaluations of experimental drug potency, pharmacology and efficacy for pre-clinical discovery/development programs. The incumbent will support multiple projects across various therapeutic areas with emphasis on Immunology, Oncology and Cancer Immunology. Experience working with matrixed project teams is desirable. In addition, candidates with knowledge of drug development and evaluation will be prioritized. The ability to plan and execute experiments in the laboratory is critical.


  • B.S. in Immunology/Oncology/Tumor Immunology/Cell Biology or related field with 6+ years research experience, or M.S. with 3+ years.

  • Experience in cell-based assay development, with an emphasis on primary cell assays that link to disease mechanism is desired.

  • Ability to work in a matrixed environment, on cross-functional teams required.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Desire to work across different therapeutic areas, applying broad biological knowledge to different targets and teams simultaneously.

Technical Competencies:

  • Extensive experience with flow cytometry, immunophenotyping, ex vivo immunoassays, and other cell-based assay methods.

  • Background in cell based reporter assays, ligand binding, proliferation, cytotoxicity, cytokine expression, and immune profiling.

  • Familiar with different assay methods including FACS, DELFIA, ELSIA, , MSD, FRET, IncuCyte, high content imaging, etc.

  • Data analysis, interpretation and presentation in team environment.

  • Experience characterizing and developing therapeutic drugs, including antibodies, fusion proteins, and small molecules is desirable.
