Pfizer Senior Associate Scientist, Research Support in La Jolla, California

ROLE SUMMARY

To provide support across various areas within Comparative Medicine (CM), including technical support to research partners and operational/programmatic support within CM. This role mentors other colleagues in the efficient conduct of techniques, scientific study conduct, and contributes significantly to the advancement of 3Rs, the implementation of new technologies and new initiatives in the workplace. All responsibilities are performed in compliance with applicable local and/or global regulatory standards while demonstrating positive leadership qualities. All duties require minimal supervision.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the project teams in Research and Development by performing technical procedures in the conduct of experiments and protocols and by collecting, recording, and exporting data in the delivery of studies. Demonstrate ownership and accountability in assigned research studies.

  • Interact with the key in-vivo contacts in project teams to understand their needs, engaging them in a flexible and constructive manner, defining best practice and developing process advancements.

  • Prioritizes own work flow. May assist with the scheduling of research and operational support and monitoring resources for the group.

  • Set a workplace standard through leading by example, showing mastery of all SOP's, regulatory guidelines and Pfizer policies. Exemplify work-place standards, positive habits and behaviors to co-workers.

  • Supports key CM personnel with the implementation of new technologies/ processes in the workplace.

  • Proactively identifies and resolves potential problems with basic complexity. Looks beyond the immediate problem to the wider implication.

  • Develops or adapts new processes and procedures to improve performance and/or increase efficiency, continuously balancing the risk and reward trade-off.

  • Mentoring of colleagues in CM and other Research lines in the efficient and refined conduct of technical procedures.

  • Maintains appropriate records in compliance with regulatory and departmental standards, this may include maintaining animal study related records.

  • Confident in the use of technology and embraces its utilization in the workplace.

May be required to work under one of the following: the United States Department of Agriculture Animal Welfare Act and associated Regulations and Standards, the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, Good Laboratory Practices, Public Health Service Policy and/or AAALAC accreditation standards.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • AA degree required

  • 3-4 years of related work experience

  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, calendar management and Internet Explorer essential

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS/BA preferred

  • AALAS certification preferred

  • Experience working in a pharmaceutical setting preferred

  • Ability to demonstrate level of technical skills and abilities

  • Colleagues should be able to use on line systems such as time tracking and document management . (e.g. SharePoint, Activity Tracker) Knowledge and use of other systems based upon job function may be required.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Lifting, sitting, standing, walking, bending, ability to perform mathematical calculations. Ability to perform repetitive physical activities e.g. dosing, pipetting, lifting.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

May have to work weekends on regular occasion, may have to work one weekend day as part of standard schedule.
