Pfizer Qualified Utilities Operator (Off Shift) in Kalamazoo, Michigan

  • ROLE SUMMARY The Journeyman Qualified Utility Operator is responsible for operation, maintenance, and process problem resolution related to Qualified Utilities Operations (Purified Water, API- Low Endotoxin Water, Water for Injection, Clean Steam, Pharmaceutical Air, Pharmaceutical Nitrogen, Production Waste, Process Vacuum, Site Potable & Industrial well water and its distribution, and site iron filters & softeners). There are many systems which must be managed to ensure that production operating needs are met as reliable operation of these utilities is critical to the pharmaceutical business. Adherence to change control and complex regulatory requirements is a must. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Qualified Utilities Operator is responsible for daily operation, responding to trouble calls, and maintenance of these systems. These duties will include: system monitoring, operational maintenance, working with contractors performing maintenance, and data review.

  • The incumbent will be expected to understand and follow complex SOP's that will govern how systems are operated, maintained, and repaired. This individual will be expected to operate the qualified utilities in a manner that meets or exceeds complex regulatory requirements (DEQ, FDA, Pfizer Quality Standards, and other agencies around the globe).

  • The incumbent anticipates, identifies and resolves problems which could lead to expensive product losses by inspecting equipment for proper function, initiating repairs as needed, and using independent judgment to determine situations requiring significant repairs which should be reported to supervision. The incumbent assists with the implementation of changes in procedures or process improvements, recommends and assists with implementation of new technologies and process improvement projects, and reviews the same to assure environmental, DEQ and GMP compliance.

  • The incumbent will be expected to monitor equipment performance and problems; diagnose problems and perform repairs, or contact the appropriate technicians to assist in performing repairs; adjust and maintain equipment to ensure quality; recommend equipment replacement; monitor preventive maintenance activity; coordinate & execute shut downs to accommodate maintenance; assist in the validation of new systems; manage the inventory necessary to maintain the systems, including ordering parts; and ensure that maintenance and monitoring records are maintained.

  • Additional duties and responsibilities include: May work variable shifts and 24hour on call as required. Must be able to work on a high performing team with the ability to accept job assignments and work with others to complete those tasks within the team.

  • Functional/Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of basic discipline. Knowledge of industry practices and standards.

  • Problem Solving and Innovation: Develop solutions to routine problems following established Pfizer policies and procedures. Communication in developing and implementing solutions is critical.

  • Discretion, Latitude, Level of Independence: Works with minimal supervision. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma/general education degree (GED) plus either an Associate degree or relevant trade school equivalency.

  • Completion of a company apprenticeship program, or its equivalent* , is required.

  • * Certified Water Operator and/or Journeyman cardholder in a related trade plus minimum of 5 years related experience such as: Water Treatment, sampling, testing, distribution and filtration systems. Storm & sanitary sewers, EGLE, DEQ, EPA. Management of Chlorine, Bleach, Ammonia & Salt.

  • Self-starter with ability to work independently.

  • Strong work ethic and the ambition to be the best. Technical Skills Requirements:

  • Excellent computer skills are required (Microsoft systems).

  • Excellent communication skills are required.

  • Ability to read drawings/electrical diagrams a plus. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Routinely exposed to hazardous materials, heights, temperature extremes, equipment in motion, noisy, dusty and dirty conditions, stooping, bending and heavy lifting. NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS May work variable shifts and 24-hour on call as required. Additional Information

The salary for this position ranges from $29,31 to $48,84 per hour. In addition, this position offers eligibility for overtime, weekend, holiday and other pay premiums depending on the work schedule and the Company's policies.
