Pfizer Sr Manager Network Operations Lead in Groton, Connecticut


The Network Operations Lead is responsible for ensuring 24x7 availability of Pfizer's global network to include the wide area network, local area network, perimeter security controls, and unified communications. Critical activities include proactive monitoring to detect and resolve issues prior to an outage, rapid troubleshooting and response upon detection of a performance issue or outage to restore services to normal operating conditions, and urgent response to major network outages in order to minimize the impact to critical business operations. This role is responsible for defining support requirements and procedures for execution by service providers, monitoring performance to identify continual service improvement opportunities, and delivering cost savings through process optimization and regularly reviewing service providers rates through a competitive bid process.


  • Establish and maintain a virtual network operations center providing situational awareness of network-related performance and security controls for the Global Information Security team operating from the Cybersecurity Operations and Response Environment (CORE) facilities located in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, England and Singapore

  • Develop and maintain formal network operations support processes and procedures for execution by managed service providers and implement controls to ensure high-quality execution

  • Represent the execution of network operations processes during internal and external audits

  • Ensure the timely response to network outages by coordinating with related technology support teams, vendors, and service providers while providing regular updates to Pfizer Digital and business unit leaders

  • Track recurring network issues and execute remediation actions to prevent future occurrence

  • Based on performance and utilization trends, identify and execute proactive remediation actions to prevent network outages related to insufficient capacity or configuration deficiencies

  • Monitor service provider compliance to service level agreements, negotiate changes to the scope of services provided, and periodically execute requests for proposal to ensure Pfizer's cost is consistent with market-leading rates.

  • Manage a team of Pfizer colleagues, contractors, and managed service providers and the budget associated with 3rd party labor and hardware/software maintenance.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline

  • 7+ years of experience as a network engineer with strong technical and communication skills

  • 5+ years of experience managing colleagues and third-party service providers

  • Detailed knowledge of data networks, unified communications, security technologies, and related monitoring services

  • Scripting experience using Python

  • Hands-on experience in operating large scale, multi-national environments including on-premise infrastructure and cloud services

  • Experience leading the global deployment of large-scale network services

  • Experience collaborating with high performing engineers and business-aligned partners to achieve desired outcomes

  • Exceptional vendor management acumen

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree

  • Cisco Certification - CCNA, CCNP, CCIE

  • Riverbed Certification - RCSA-NPM, RCSA-NPCM, RCSA-APM or respective RCPE certification

  • Network virtualization experience - Cisco ACI, VMware NSX

  • Cloud infrastructure experience - AWS, Azure, GCP


Periodic domestic (20%) and international (5%) travel required.
