The External Science & Innovation (ES&I), Emerging Science Lead-Internal Medicine Head, East Coast has the following accountabilities: To be a key driver in harnessing external innovation and strengthen Pfizer WRD's pre-clinical pipeline. The candidate will perform targeted outreach to the life sciences communities (including academia, biotech, venture firms, consortia, etc.) in key scientific hubs. The candidate will have dual responsibility for the pipeline enhancement of the cross RU as well as CTI by sourcing cutting edge science, target proposals, discovery projects,
To fulfill these responsibilities the candidate will have
long standing disease area expertise for diverse biology skills across metabolic and endorgan failure diseases as well as across other therapeutic areas such as Inflammation and immunology including autoimmune diseases and tolerance induction, rare disease and/or oncology expertise (with a clearly demonstrated track record)
Demonstrated strong networking capabilities (internal & external)
proven experience in project leadership
The ES&I Emerging Science Lead will align and work with the Internal Medicine research unit and CTI to help build the strategy for the early stage portfolio in collaboration with the Chief Scientific Officer and his or her leadership team and its execution in areas spanning all inflammatory diseases.

The Emerging Science Lead responsibilities include:
Identify and evaluate external cutting edge emerging science of strategic fit for WRD in the discovery to clinical Candidate & Technology space to source partnerships (incl. research collaborations, licensing, acquisitions) for CTI and RUs
The ESL has networking & sourcing responsibilities for all Internal Medicine related science across the US & Canada in order to provide both CTI and RU with innovative cutting edge science, including novel biology, targets, Lead Discover, up to CAN projects, or breakthrough and enabling technologies & platforms from academia, biotech and other life science community sources
Network with CTI partnered and other leading academic institutions/PIs in key scientific hubs to source new projects and target ideas
Leverage Pfizer internal capability to establish WRD as partner-of-choice and secure partnerships (eg, through in kind contributions, equity investments, combination/leveraging Pfizer internal assets, etc.)
Lead early projects or partnerships sourced via ESF, ITEN, CTI.
Represent WRD at key events & conferences as needed in the respective region of responsibility
Presents thoughts/ideas to senior leaders with the ability to influence and impact investment decisions with goal of advancing Pfizer portfolio.
Requires seasoned PhD or MD/PhD with 12+ years of industry experience in the IM related R&D sector with strong scientific track record
Strong EQ for internal (within ES&I, RUs/WRD) and external networking and communication, including presentations to Pfizer leadership (ResCo, CSOs, WRD LT, BDC, ELT), potential external partners, and at scientific & partnering conferences
Demonstrated strong capability of leading early research partnerships
Prior Experience Preferred:
Experience in Internal Medicine Diseases as well as other scientific fields
Experience in developing scientific and business strategies to support innovative pharmaceutical product development in pharma/biotech.
Experience with search and evaluation, due diligence, relationship and collaboration building, alliance management.
Experience in pharmaceutical drug development (Idea to Candidate) process
Experience in managing/tracking R&D budgets
Experience with New Chemical Entity (NCE) and New Biologic Entity (NBE) products.
Outstanding written and oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate well across multiple business/group lines
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of 25% travel required.
