Pfizer's Corporate Affairs & Communication department plays a pivotal role in shaping the Belgian & Luxemburg healthcare policy impacting the pharmaceutical industry. Together with external stakeholders we are closely involved in evolving policies ensuring Belgian patients get access to innovative medicines now and in the future. The department is also responsible for the development and implementation of a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) strategy.

We are currently looking for a: Public Affairs Manager

He/she will work with the Director Corporate Affairs & Communication and a talented group of colleagues in achieving these goals.

Shape the environment through stakeholder outreach & policy work:

The Public Affairs Manager provides support to the different Business Units regarding their Public Affairs issues. He/she will therefor take up a leading role in Cross Functional Team meetings of the different Business Units re the policy topics. He/she will be the first point of contact for all Public Affairs issues. The Public Affairs Manager will map the issues, subsequently develop a plan of action for each (in agreement with the Cross Functional Team), carry out the plan and do the necessary outreach.

The Public Affairs Manager also provides the BeLux organization with adequate support and expertise related to future healthcare policies, processes and procedures in Belgium and Luxembourg in order to contribute to the achievement of Pfizer's overall vision, mission, strategic goals and operational objectives. He/she enables Pfizer becoming the preferred partner in healthcare ("Breakthroughs that changes patients' lives") for Belgian authorities, politicians, legislators, political parties, payers and other specific customer groups (i.e. : professional associations such as doctors'- & pharmacists' associations, selected KOL's...) through :

Identifying stakeholders needs and finding common ground with Pfizer needs and objectives:

  • Conceiving, developing, planning and implementing strategic and cross-functionally aligned projects and programs for these stakeholder groups

  • Stimulating the above-mentioned stakeholder groups to optimize the Belgian healthcare system including for medicines and entering into strategic partnerships with selected customer bodies, supporting shared goals.

  • To create/improve awareness of the positive impact /contributions of innovative pharmaceuticals on public health and health insurance and pro-actively contribute to the development of concepts to accelerate and/or simplify patient access.

  • Thrive and improve the corporate image of Pfizer Belgium by developing a strong Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Identity in order to improve respect from society

  • Conceiving, developing, planning and implementing strategic and cross-functionally aligned projects and programs in the field of CSR

  • Establish a network with the relevant stakeholders and organizations in the field of CSR

Responsibilities:

  • Be the first point of contact for all policy related questions of the different business units, participate in cross functional team meetings (when and where appropriate). Develop and drive implementation (in collaboration with the cross functional team) , where needed, a policy plan relevant to the brands, disease areas, customers/stakeholders.

  • Liaise with International Public Affairs (or other internal groups) to ensure that our local policy is fully aligned with the overall Pfizer corporate/regional strategy and where possible to fully leverage the work done at the global and regional level.

  • Closely collaborate with the Corporate Affairs & Communication Director to identify the relevant issues of the different Business Units and take the lead in addressing them ensuring optimal cross-functional alignment.

  • Drive the Pfizer BeLux CSR agenda identifying opportunities and leading projects with the relevant stakeholder groups.

  • Create understanding of stakeholder needs within the Belgian organization: meet, inform and brief politicians, civil servants and other stakeholders on relevant issues relevant for Pfizer business; develop networks through attendance at key conferences; advance dissemination of key Pfizer strategic objectives and aims; ensure appropriate presentation of the value of innovative medicines.

  • Keep track of the evolution of the Belgian, political & health care landscape developments including legislation, rules and policies related to healthcare in Belgium (both at regional and federal levels) and Luxembourg (transform challenges into advantages for Pfizer). Identify and analyze the other relevant pharmaceutical companies' strategies and activities in terms of Health Policies. (e.g. Health Science & Technology companies)

  • Act as an ambassador for Pfizer and represent the company where appropriate, e.g. on committees or in organizations relevant to the above mentioned customer groups (e.g. Amcham...)

Profile:

  • Education: University degree in Communication or other related field

  • Experience: Min. 7 years experience in Policy, External Affairs and/or Communication roles. Introduction with political parties, ministerial cabinets etc. is an important asset as well as in-depth knowledge and/or experience of Healthcare sector and Pharmaceutical industry

  • Language skills: Perfect command of French with fluent knowledge of Dutch and English

  • Knowledge of health environment matters in the Belgian market and the Belgian political landscape are important

  • Influencing and negotiation skills. Emotional Intelligence to interact with decision makers

  • Teamwork and cross-functional coordination : Competence in managing sensitive cross-corporate networks

  • Long term vision and strategic thinking

  • Excellent analytical skills. Capacity to integrate the major positions/orientations of Pfizer worldwide and to translate them into receptive messages appropriate to local culture

  • Networking: Proven ability building and maintaining networks that are relevant to Pfizer

  • Excellent communication skills with people at all levels; high standard of written and oral communication skills; developed presentation skills (in English, French and Dutch)

  • High learning ability, eagerness to grow
