Pfizer Senior Manager, DevOps Lead in Collegeville, Pennsylvania
The Digital Solutions and Enablement team are accountable for the creation, configuration, launch, and support of all externally facing digital (web, mobile, omni-channel, & device) products, platforms, services, and experiences, servicing all external customer types at Pfizer.
In addition, the DS&E team is accountable for our Marketing Technology (Martech stack) inclusive of Digital Platforms, Digital Channel Enablement, Content Integration, and Marketing/Marketer Tools and for driving Digital Enablement within Pfizer, including Robotic Process Automation, Intelligent Assistants and Workforce Productivity tools.
The Senior Manager, DevOps Lead owns responsibility within the Global Digital Operations team of ensuring that both culture and practice of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) are implemented within our organization and with those organizations that we are aligned to within DS&E to deliver continued improvements in both development of the platforms used to deliver scaled digital solutions to Pfizer customers and in the operations processes across the organization. The DevOps lead will ensure training (virtual/classroom) is conducted for all DS&E participating members and that specific DevOps goals, initiatives and metrics are developed and fully managed to successfully measure continuous improvement. Additionally, the person in this role will assist engineering and operations manager and team leads to conduct effective retrospectives and help to identify meaningful team health metrics, including documentation and publishing of success stories.
The Global Digital Operations organization works within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment with a DevOps culture of Continuous Improvement. It will be critical for the individual in this role to align to both the framework and the culture of the organization and seek to continuously optimize and automate processes within the "Shift-Left" model established by our team.
A key success metric will be the overall reduction of tickets within each of the platform service categories and aligned to ratios of assets, e.g. Number of Tickets per Site. Additional success criteria will be both tracking and reporting of personal ideas on how to increase efficiencies anywhere within the organization.
The individual in this role will need to garner the respect of senior members of the team and must have the required experiences that set the foundation for that respect. This individual will be someone with a wide range of previous related assignments, quantified success in those assignments, and a defined level of knowledge in the areas of DevOps/Agile expertise that will drive success in this role as defined within my team. Specifically, this person will be leading matrix processes and teams within several complex activities and efforts across the following areas:
- SAFe Advocate / Coach
Ensures that all relevant team members associated with producing deliverables within the DS&E organization are trained and well versed on DevOps and have common understandings of definitions, process and success stories.This includes all levels within our organization Foster a DevOps culture: ensuring that security, monitoring, operability and ease of deployment are part of team's considerations.Performs the role of advocate to provide strong and convincing arguments across the organization in support of the DevOps frameworks and culture.Champions Agile development best practices (unit testing, TDD, automation, CI / CD, pair and mob programming).Encourages continuous learning and improvement.Will assess, plan, and drive the Agile approach, principles and practices during transformation.
- Formalized Feedback Mgmt.
The person in this role will architect and implement a solution to ensure that well defined processes are developed to institute formalized feedback loops at all relevant points within the organization and that feedback is curated, reviewed and presented to decision makers in a way that will help to drive improvements where necessary. Will guide and mentor managers and team leads in conducting effective retrospectives and help identify meaningful metrics to measure process maturity. Will conduct strategic workshops to lead teams in finding additional opportunities to enhance process.
- Process / Continuous Improvement
Develops and leads sessions to help teams identify improvement opportunities and track those opportunities to full implementation.Leverages the DevOps culture to build team-based approaches to continuous improvement. Use advanced systems coaching, organizational development, culture, change management and leadership skills and uses those skills to affect organizations at large.
- Metrics on Optimizations
Develop processes to both identify and capture key metrics that tell the story on trajectories of improvement and also provide early insights into failures in culture and practice.Inspire and encourage teams to try new creative ways to reduce process overhead, increase test coverage and decrease their feedback-loop cycle time.
- Constraint/Bottleneck Hunts
Partnering with DS&E Continuous Improvement lead in conducting hunting sessions to help teams identify where constraints and bottlenecks exist and document initial insights as leverage for future continuous improvement efforts. Provide feedback to relevant process owners and seek broad input for potential change impact when defining cases for change. Will develop a solution to document full value streams across both business and digital areas of responsibility and provide layered insights to time, resource expenditure, and cost. Layered value streams will be serve as foundations to have organization wide input potential areas of improvement.
- Automation Targeting
With relentless fervor, ensure that all teams are seeking opportunities to automate processes wherever possible.Seek to minimize or eliminate manual hand-offs and to also link all automated workflows.Assist teams in producing business case analysis to ensure clear messaging as to the 'why' of automation improvements.
- Shift-Left Methodology
Leverage the Global Digital Operations' "Shift-Left" model of seeking to reduce the complexity of required functions and tasks so that lower cost resources are leveraged whenever possible.Furthest "Right" in a shift-left model is Engineering/Development.Furthest "Left" in the model is automation, and then elimination of work.
- Communicate Success Stories
The DevOps lead will own the responsibility of developing communications practices, forums and formats to effectively communicate when a team has a good story to tell around DevOps process improvements, automations, culture improvements, etc.
- Additional projects and efforts as assigned.
BA and 5+ years of demonstrated experience as an information technology professional in an environment with Drupal or Open Source CMS websites, monitoring solutions, and ESBs.
Relevant experience within information technology roles with increasing responsibility designing, delivering, and maintaining large-scale, global systems & platforms.
Awareness of classic and new design patterns and ability to help others recognize them and use them component design
Deep knowledge of cloud architectures such as Amazon Web Services, including experience improving processes with 3rd party providers.
Scrum Alliance Certified Enterprise Coach or similar certification
years of experience in successfully leading large-scale Agile transformations with methods such as XP, Scrum, Lean, or Kanban
At least years of experience working with various scaling Agile solutions such as SAFe, LeSS, Nexus, DaD, SoS
Hands-on experience applying Lean / Agile methodologies within software, infrastructure, , and operational environments
Have Agile or Scaled Agile certifications (SPC) or similar
Successfully coach and mentor teams on the organizational value to drive implementation, success and overall adoption of Agile framework
Deep knowledge of Agile principles and practices and the ability to transfer that understanding at all levels of the organization
Senior Agile Leadership skills with an ability to lead by example and challenge command and control behavior
Bachelor of Science degree in the fields of Information Management, Computer Science, Engineering, Technology Management or relevant disciplines.
Strong vendor management skills in a globally dispersed solution provider environment.
