Pfizer Senior Scientist in Cambridge, Massachusetts
Pfizer's Rare Disease Research Unit (RDRU) is focused on developing therapies for inherited diseases, including neuromuscular and neurodegenerative disorders. The successful candidate will be a member of a group focused on repeat expansion diseases and amyloid diseases. S/he will be responsible for establishing pre-clinical disease models (cellular and rodent), including testing the efficacy of lead molecules. S/he is expected to have excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and presentation skills (written and oral) and will need to effectively communicate with internal and external partners.
Design and conduct experiments that advance the development of therapies.
Design, complete experimental studies, carry out data analyses and interpretation, record results in electronic lab notebook, and stay abreast of novel relevant findings from the literature.
Interface with an internal interdisciplinary team and with external collaborators from academia and industry.
Support in vivo work for other projects in the RDRU portfolio.
M.S. with 7+ years of experience or Ph.D. in molecular and cell biology, or a related discipline including primary authorship on relevant publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Must be willing to work with live animals and cells/tissues of human origin.
Hands-on experience working with in vivo and cellular models of cardiac diseases.
Strong hands-on experience analyzing the pathobiology of diseases and ability to establish robust methods in-house, including transfer to internal/external partners.
Scientific and technical agility
Familiarity with standard molecular biology methods including but not limited to cell culture, siRNA and plasmid transfections, immunoassays such as ELISAs and western blotting, quantitative real-time PCR, and immunofluorescence.
Ability to generate high quality data in a time-sensitive environment, to assimilate new information from multiple sources, and to effectively communicate with internal and external scientists.
Creativity, self-motivation and the ability to work independently including analysis and troubleshooting of experimental results and reviewing literature to formulate new approaches.
Experience in 1 rare cardiac disease.
Experience in echocardiography measurement and measurements of other cardiac endpoints in rodents.
Post-doctoral experience or equivalent.
