Pfizer Senior Scientist, Protein Crystallography in Cambridge, Massachusetts


We are seeking a protein crystallography expert who will be involved in crystal structure determination of industry-leading biotherapeutics as part of Pfizer's BioMedicine Design team in Cambridge, MA. The successful candidate will join project teams in multiple therapeutic areas to assist structure-based optimization of protein therapeutic leads in early through late discovery.


Works with project teams as a primary source of structure knowledge of protein antigens and of their binding complexes with protein biotherapeutic leads. Effectively presents/communicates results of structure analysis and recommendations to colleagues with diverse scientific backgrounds. Implements new or improved crystallography software packages to increase throughput and accuracy of structure determination workflows.


  • PhD in biochemistry, chemistry, or a related field and 0-1 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry.

  • Experience in guiding crystallography projects from start to finish.

  • Expertise in commonly used protein crystallography software packages.

  • Use of molecular visualization software packages to produce high-quality 3D images of biological macromolecules.


  • Working knowledge of antibody structure and function is a significant advantage.

  • Working knowledge of crystallization robotics is desirable.

  • Knowledge in optimization of crystallization conditions to produce diffraction-quality crystals.

  • Conducting research projects in a team setting, presenting results to scientists of varying technical backgrounds.

  • Knowledge in computational scripting is an advantage.

  • Good track record of publication in topics involving protein structure determination and analysis.
