Pfizer Senior Scientist, Molecular Discovery in Cambridge, Massachusetts

We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to join a display-based antibody discovery group in the BioMedicine Design Department at Pfizer, Inc. in Cambridge, MA. The candidate will be responsible for developing antibodies for target validation using phage and yeast display technology. The successful candidate should demonstrate a strong passion for life science and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced collaborative environment. The primary responsibilities of the candidate will be hit identification from antibody phage display libraries and lead optimization for improving antibody activity. The role requires a strong background in molecular biology, tissue culture, bacterial culture, assay development, and high- throughput screening. Experience with automated liquid handling systems is strongly desired.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design antibody selection strategies and execute antibody discovery campaigns using phage display technology against multiple targets in parallel.

  • Develop, optimize, and execute assays for high throughput antibody screening using robotic liquid handling equipment. Methods may include ELISA, HTRF, DELFIA, AlphaLISA, flow cytometry, etc.

  • Independently analyze data and troubleshoot methods. Present experimental design and assay results at internal meetings.

  • Characterize IgGs by analytical techniques such as ELISA, flow cytometry, and Octet.

  • Conduct high throughput molecular biology operations such as reformatting scFv to IgG. Design and build phage optimization libraries.

  • Accurately document experimental design, data analysis and conclusions.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S or M.S in molecular biology/immunology/cell biology or a related discipline with a minimum of 5 years of research experience OR a PhD in molecular biology/ immunology/cell biology or a related discipline.

  • Strong molecular biology skills, including at least 3 years of hands-on experience with primer design, PCR, construct design, and molecular cloning.

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience with E. coli culture and mammalian cell culture.

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in development and execution of high throughput screening assays, including ELISA, HTRF, and flow cytometry.

  • Experience (2 years' minimum) with using liquid handling automation and designing automated high throughput screening protocols.

  • Strong time management skills and ability to manage multiple projects in parallel.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to present research in a team setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Hands-on experience with phage display technology and yeast display technology strongly preferred.

  • Strong computer skills highly desirable, including the creation of robotic protocols.

  • Experience with next generation sequencing (NGS) is a plus.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Lifting, sitting, standing, walking, bending, handling small laboratory apparatus and liquid handling robots, and ability to perform mathematical calculations and ability to perform complex data analysis.
