Pfizer Senior Scientist, Cardiometabolism & Cardiac function in Cambridge, Massachusetts

The Cardiometabolism group within the Pfizer IMRU is focused on understanding the mechanisms by which peripheral and cardiomyocyte metabolism impact heart function in disease settings. Our purpose is to develop first in class therapies to treat the growing number of patients with impaired heart function in the setting of the metabolic syndrome. The successful candidate will be well versed in the mechanistic pathology of the cardiometabolic syndrome and will have direct experience in in vivo heart failure and ex vivo cardiac or cardiomyocyte function models. The successful candidate will contribute to all aspects of the drug discovery process: identification of testable therapeutic hypotheses and targets, preclinical evaluation with genetic and pharmacologic agents, and ultimately support the clinical evaluation of therapeutic agents. This individual will serve as a significant resource of technical information and laboratory techniques, and will be capable of working independently to design, execute, and interpret controlled experiments. This is a primarily laboratory based role.

  • Apply scientific and technical expertise to drug discovery programs to impact the future of new drug candidate development

  • Conceptualize and design experiments

  • Organize and conduct in vivo/ ex vivo/ in vitro studies independently (including preparation, data collection, interpretation, and presentation)

  • Maintain awareness of scientific and technical developments in field

  • Author manuscripts for quality publications in top-tier journals.

  • Interface with an interdisciplinary team of scientists in the Internal Medicine Research Unit and engage in both target exploration and driving established projects in our portfolio.

  • Quantify and translate experimental results to advance the understanding of how complex physiological systems are altered by diseases and how they respond to therapeutic interventions.

  • Maintenance of laboratory notebook records and adherence to safety policies is strictly required.

  • PhD with 0-3 years of experience and evidence of scientific achievements through publications and presentations.

  • The candidate will have expertise with in vivo and ex vivo models of cardiovascular biology and their implementation to address mechanisms and therapeutic hypotheses. A strong knowledge of models of heart function is critical.

  • Working knowledge of peripheral and/or cellular metabolism is a strong plus

  • The candidate must be a highly driven and independent scientist who possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • The candidate will be a demonstrably creative biologist with a passion for finding solutions to difficult problems.

  • Experience in standard molecular biology techniques (qPCR, western blot, ELISA, etc) is required.
