Pfizer Postdoctoral fellow in Cambridge, Massachusetts


We have an exciting postdoctoral fellow opportunity for a G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) pharmacologist to join Pfizer's Internal Medicine research unit located in the heart of Cambridge's biomedical research hub. There you will embark on a research project aimed at defining the molecular and biological impacts of naturally-occurring human mutations found in GPCRs with emerging roles in the regulation of metabolism. This cutting-edge research project will employ a combination of traditional and state-of-the-art pharmacology/ cell biology techniques, in order to link molecular abnormalities induced by genetic variations with clinically-relevant metabolic phenotypes. For the right individual with interests and expertise in GPCR pharmacology, this position presents a unique opportunity to develop an innovative translational approach to validate novel therapeutic targets for human metabolic diseases. Your scientific research will give you the opportunity to immerse yourself in a dynamic pharmaceutical industry environment, to work with and influence fellow scientists across other disciplines. You will be expected to deliver the results of your novel research internally via various working groups, via external conferences and through publications in quality scientific journals.


• Develop reagents and validate robust assays for building a deep pharmacological understanding of the impact of a human mutations on the intracellular signaling, binding kinetics, and trafficking of GPCRs.

• Work closely with structural biologists to formulate molecular hypotheses to better define how naturally-occurring human mutations alter GPCR function.

• Develop physiologically-relevant cell-based functional assays to understand the translation of in vitro pharmacological abnormalities induced by human missense mutations.

• Work closely with computation biologists and geneticists to define whether functionally-abnormal variants are associated with disease-relevant clinical phenotypes.

• Communicate findings within internal working groups at Pfizer, as well as externally through publications in high-impact scientific journals and presentations at international conferences.

• Interface with scientists from across many disciplines and work collaboratively with other GPCR experts across Pfizer, while at the same time being able to work independently.

• Show strong initiative in developing creative ideas, and bringing them to functional use within Pfizer.


A recently graduated PhD in one or more of the following areas:

• G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) pharmacology, biochemistry or cell biology.

• High level of expertise in GPCR pharmacology and related assays.

• First-author research papers in internationally recognized, peer-reviewed journal

• Experience in pharmacology techniques such as second messenger assays (e.g. HTRF, BRET, FRET-based approaches), radioligand binding, receptor trafficking, confocal microscopy/imaging, label-free technologies and/or primary cell systems (e.g. adipocytes, skeletal muscle cells).
